COP26 REGIONAL ROADSHOWS

During the fortnight of the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow, we will be hosting COP26 Regional Roadshows to explore how the South West region can work together to tackle the climate emergency.

COP26 Regional Roadshows are supported and funded by the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), through the five regional Energy Hubs. These events will help to motive and inspire people to join the race to net zero and cut their carbon emissions.

Lord Mayor’s Climate Reception

  • Date/time: 22nd October, 4-6pm
  • Location: Guildhall, Portsmouth
  • COP26 theme: Cities and built environment
  • Details: A reception to launch Portsmouth City Council’s response to COP26.

Risks and impacts in Portsmouth

  • Date/time: 1st November, 5-7.30pm
  • Location: Richmond Lecture Theatre, Portsmouth University
  • COP26 theme: Adaptation and resilience
  • Details: Hear from people on the front line of climate change research on possible impacts and how we build resilience through planning, infrastructure and behaviour change. Panel discussion and Q&A.

Setting a course to net zero: How Portsmouth’s Port is embracing green technology

  • Date/time: 3rd November, 12 noon
  • Location: Portsmouth International Port (virtual)

  • Details: This virtual event will showcase the work of Portsmouth International Port, a living laboratory of green technology, including machine learning-controlled lithium /lead storage battery and a 35kW hydrogen electrolyser pilot.
Switched On City

  • Location: Portsmouth Central Library
  • COP26 theme: Energy transitions
  • Details: Showcase days on all things energy, demonstrating practical solutions to businesses and homeowners.

  • Details: A session of expert contribution and discussion looking at how the city can respond to the climate challenge.

Bristol City Council events

The Business of Net Zero

  • Date/time: 4th November, 1-5pm
  • Location: We The Curious, Bristol
  • COP26 theme: Finance
  • Details: A business-focused event curated by Business West and Bristol City Council in partnership with other networks to discuss the business of decarbonising the region’s economy. The event will include what businesses need to do and are doing, and the business opportunities of mobilising public and private finance flows at scale.

Bristol Mock COP

  • Date/time: 11th November
  • Location: University of Bristol
  • COP26 theme: Youth
  • Details: A student-focused event involving 12 schools from across the region in their own mock COP26 negotiations. Organised by Praxis research in collaboration with Bristol City Council and the Cabot Institute.

  • Details: A workshop for town and parish councillors to help them develop a low carbon action plan. The event will also provide an opportunity for local organisations to promote their support services.

Tamar Energy Fest

  • Date/time: 13th November, 9am-5pm
  • Location: Butchers Hall ,Tavistock, PL19 0AL
  • COP26 theme: Cities and built environment, Energy transition
  • Details: This event will showcase the project work and initiatives of Tamar Energy Community and partners including energy advice services, retrofit development and importance of whole house retrofit, Warmer Bedford Cottages, renewable heat network project and community solar installations. We will also showcase the importance of smart meters in the home and how these fit into the transforming decentralised energy market. There will be talks throughout the day.

Torbay Climate Conversation

  • Details: The Torbay Climate Conversation will be the first of many conversations that the council wants to have with its residents, local community and businesses about climate change and how we can all together reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Let’s Talk Climate Action

  • Details: We want our event to bring together businesses, organisations, local councils and community groups to address the question ‘when everything is so global, what can I do?’
  • As the United Nations meet at COP26 to accelerate world action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement, we need everyone to commit to act on climate change and create further momentum for action here in Cornwall. Through six themed, inspirational discussions between informed speakers and passionate and engaged local advocates, the event will highlight the issues of climate change and what action we can all take to reduce our carbon impact.
